2 persons have been killed on December 25, when a Policeman allegedly fired several shots into a crowd of fun seekers, during a music carnival in Benue State
Olajide TV gathered that the incident occurred at Ochacho Avenue in Otukpo, Benue state.
It was gathered that there were so many people at the event due to the fact that renowned musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido was expected to perform at the event.
Eyewitnesses told newsmen in Makurdi, that the event had barely started, when gunshots fired by one of the Policemen believed to be on duty at the venue rented the atmosphere and in the process 2 persons, a male and a female were killed.
The eyewitness said that the sound of the gun was so loud that many people had to run away from the area for fear of their own lives, with many thinking that there was an armed robbery attack.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, George Ali, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Makurdi.
He said that a young lady and a young man died in the incident and that their corpses have been deposited at a hospital morgue.
Ali however, said that the organizer of the music carnival flouted federal and state governments directive banning social gathering due to second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olajide TV has reached out to the Police Public Relations Officer of Benue, DSP Catherine Anene, for comment on the incident, but she is yet to respond, as of the time of filing this report.
