John Carpenter’s Halloween came out in 1978, and showed the insane killer Michael Myers on a rampage after escaping from a psychiatric hospital. He went after people including a young babysitter, Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), who is seen in the new films as having been tormented by the memory for decades.
The 2018 Halloween movie, the first in the new trilogy, is the new direct sequel to the 1978 film, meaning it is now the first time we see Laurie since the events of the first movie.
In the 2018 film, Michael (originally Nick Castle, now played by James Jude Courtney) returned and Laurie, helped by daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak), attempted to rid the town of him once and for all.
Halloween Kills, the second film in the new trilogy, brings us to a new point in the story, and whatever happens, we know there is still one more installment to come. We break down all there is to know about the new movie.
When Is Halloween Kills Out?
Halloween Kills will be released on October 15, just in time for Halloween.
The movie was expected to be released in October 2020, but the COVID pandemic meant it was delayed to 2021.
As a result of the delay the third movie in the trilogy, Halloween Ends, will be released in 2022.
Who Is In Halloween Kills?
The cast is lead by the three 2018 stars: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer and Andi Matichak.
James Jude Courtney returns as Michael, while Will Patton is the deputy sheriff who helped the women try to stop Michael in the first part of the new trilogy.
Anthony Michael Hall and Kyle Richards play Tommy and Lindsey, two grown-ups who Laurie looked after in the original 1978 movie.
Nancy Stephens also returns to the franchise as the former assistant of Dr. Sam Loomis, the psychiatrist who tried to catch Michael in the 1978 movie.
What Do Critics Think of Halloween Kills?
Halloween Kills recently had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and had mixed reviews from critics.
Variety‘s Owen Gleiberman called the movie “a mess,” while The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney said it is “like a latex ghoul mask so stretched and shapeless it no longer fits.”
Some reviewers were slightly more friendly, with The Wrap‘s Asher Luberto calling it “a textbook Halloween movie.”
What Is the Plot of Halloween Kills?
Halloween Kills takes a similar route to the original Halloween sequel, Halloween II, with Laurie Strode in the hospital recovering from a night of terror when Michael returns again.
This time, however, she has many more people backing her, and the entire town of Haddonfield works together to rid their homes of the specter of Michael Myers once and for all with a vigilante group.
However, given there is a third film on the way, it seems the saga is not quite over for Laurie and Michael.
Halloween Kills is out in movie theaters on October 15.
