[Viral Video] Man caught sexually harassing lady inside public bus not a Police officer – Command

The Lagos State Police Command says it has identified the man seen in a viral video, assaulting a young woman in a commercial vehicle on March 13.

According to the Police, the man alleged to have been caught masturbating by the lady he assaulted is not a Police officer as he claimed in the video.

Olajide TV gathered that the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure in a statement on March 17, 2021.

His statement reads, ” The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the man allegedly caught in the viral video where a lady videoed and accused him of masturbating in a commercial vehicle on March 13, 2021 has been identified”.

“The man, simply identified as Mr Matthew, who assaulted the lady, one Olajumome Okeyemi, for correcting his actions and act of sexual harassment in a public vehicle, is a Driver employed by GTC Laundry Services, along Channels TV Road, Isheri, is not a Police officer as he claimed during the drama that unfolded in the video.”

Narrating what transpired in the vehicle, the PPRO said, ” Mr Matthew was in a commercial bus moving from OPIC Estate Isheri to Mowe with the lady when the suspect resorted to verbal abuse and attempted to physically assault the lady for recording his criminal and indecent act on her phone. But for reasons best to the suspect, Mr Matthew, impersonated to be a Police Officer.”

He further said that the Lagos State Command in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, have launched an investigation into the matter, as well as have intensified all efforts to apprehend him.

He said that some women who have had similar experience with the said suspect are beginning to share their experiences on social media. He said the comments will assist the Police in carrying out their investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commission of Police in Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu has condemned the actions of the suspect, who through his utterances has dragged the name of the Nigeria Police Force in the mud.

Odumosu therefore charged the gender unit of the Lagos State Command to swiftly take action in arresting and prosecuting the suspect, adding that such foul acts would not be tolerated in the state.
